Agnostic Stamp Lrg by violetsteel Agnostic Stamp Lrg by violetsteel
According to Wikipedia

Agnosticism:
(from the Greek a, meaning "without" and gnosis, "knowledge", translating to unknowable) is the philosophical view that the truth value of certain claims — particularly theological claims regarding metaphysics, afterlife or the existence of God, god(s), or deities — is unknown or inherently unknowable.

What do agnostics think of our kind? (Christians) Do they view us with disdain or with tolerance?

we believe that it's okay for anyone to believe in anything, you are entitled to your opinion. but we start having problems if you start to force your beliefs on us.

Why the cross though? Agnosticism doesn't always mean that you question the existence of the christian god specifically.

Because I can't fit every single symbol for religion and I grew up in a predominantly Christian Community.

By using the symbol of a cross I assume you're referring to christianity. If you doubt christianity, that doesn't make you an agnostic. In fact nothing so far has convinced me agnostics even exist. Theism is an acquired state of actively believing god(s) exist - atheism is everything else. My rabbit is an atheist, for example.

As far as I understand it, theists actively believe gods exist (you're correct there), but I was under the impression atheism is actively believing gods do not exist. Agnostic as far as I can tell, and to use the technical term, just means you don't really give a shit. Or that you just don't know.

Nope, it's a common misconception - atheists are not necessarily convinced gods don't exist. I suppose you could say it's not a question of belief - it's a question of whether you rely on evidence or faith. Atheists rely on where the evidence (and varying degrees of logic) points. Not believing in god doesn't mean disbelieving. It could mean you don't know. Agnostics are generally cowards who just don't want to piss anyone off by labeling themselves as atheists or theists, in my experience, but then there are militant agnostics who are hilarious!

Hm.... so what you're saying is that atheism is a broad category and agnosticism falls under that category... I looked it up on Wikipedia because we all know what a valuable resource that is, and it said of atheism, "Atheism is, in a broad sense, the rejection of belief in the existence of deities." Which I guess is ambiguous enough it seems to support both our arguments. It goes on to say that "In a narrower sense, atheism is specifically the position that there are no deities. Most inclusively, atheism is simply the absence of belief that any deities exist." I guess it all depends on how you define it and we'll have to stick to our respective definitions! :D Agree to disagree?

I would say that first definition is correct and not really ambiguous. Atheists reject belief in the existence of deities. I think that "in the narrower sense" definition was probably added by an atheist who holds that position and was speaking for himself. Here's an atheist website [link] and I expect that to find out about atheism you're more likely to get sense out of atheists than out of wikipedia. There are a few websites written by atheists and most of them appear to agree with me. Perhaps some atheists think that the only true atheists disbelieve in deities; but then there are some British who think the only true Brits are those who don't drink coffee. Atheism can definitely encompass agnosticism. So, I agree that I disagree with you - but at the end of the day they are only labels created by us so we can decide what they do! :D

Ha ha! I can do the name calling but find it unnecessary when dealing with people who have a wider vocabulary and a better argument than "I'm right and you're stupid". Unfortunately this isn't very often though. XD

Hm, yeah. I try to avoid places where an argument like that would spring up. I tend to stay secluded in my own little fandom corner of deviantART...

Love the stamp.
When I was little, I was considored a Jehovah's Wittness, but when I was about 12 almost 13, I stopped believing because I always hated being a Jehovah's Wittness, even as a little kid. Finally I asked myself why I believed even know I hated it, and I couldn't find an answer, so that's when I stopped believing and looked for a new religion at 13. I could never find one I liked. Every religion had a rule I choose not to follow and a person that bitched at me for not following that rule. Just before school started, I asked myself what I believed in. I said "I believe there's a deity, but I don't think he/she really gives a damn if someone's homosexual, goth, etc. And I also don't think this god wrote the bible." Then I was like "Believe that!" So I did. I'm 14 years old, and I feel happier not caring if god hates me or not. If god hates me for who I am then fuck him. I have friends who like me just the way I am, and that's all I need. :)

I believe this makes you a "deist". Noty exactly an agnostic, but close enough: deists believe that a creative source (a deitie, a source of energy, a superior being, or other) created the universe, but does not interfere in the flow of things.

I used to be Christian, now I'm Agnostic Atheist because I started to doubt what could not be proven (yet?). :iconheplz: And anyways, there are too many fights over religion anyways, fights that, for once, I don't want to be a part of.

ditto with comments. used to be a christian but pulled away while growing up when i saw what was happening in the religious community. ...

fighting, close mindedness, condemning the innocent just cus they are a little different (ex: gays, lesbians, goths, and a lot of my best friends are these, found that judging people based on what they do/like is really wrong.)

sooooo because of all that i now no longer have a religion. when people ask me, i tell them i'm "athiest/agnostic". I don't believe in anything, but at the same time i choose to believe + also think we should have the right to believe in whatever the hell we want to.

yes. You should be free to be who you want to be. Free to doubt, free to be like what you want to like without worrying about going to hell cus you like something (ex: harry potter, lord of the rings and anything related to anime + manga). I like the fact that my family, despite being christains are very loving of people and acceptable and open minded. Some people might not be.

However my opinions still stands. You should be free to do what you want. Thankfully my parents understand that I am atheist/agnostic and don't force me to do anything i don't want to do. :)

i was taught to fight for what you believe in.

if you want to be gay, go for it. I have a lot of awesome friends who are. They are wonderful people just like us and are not any different. they are people. they have feelings. they have souls. treat them as such.

yep. I have a few lesbian friends too, who also respect me and understand that i am straight and also don't force me into that kinda life style. I also have a lot of goth friends and a lot of people who come from different crowds in general. It's good to respect each other like that, not just for yourself but for your friends who are different/were raised differently as well. :) I found that religion tends to label people based on clothing/orientation and that's not fair. :(

If agnostic why is there a Cross?
shouldn't it be right to doubt and have no specific religion?
